Meet Bihar's first time MLAs

Patna: Nitish Kumar won a resounding second term but his team comprises many first timers, some of whom are using very trick in the book to get some attention.

Like Som Prakash, who is a newly-elected MLA. His first stop in Patna is not the state Assembly, but the coaching centre where he once taught IIT aspirants. Here he has a captive audience - a luxury Som Prakash may not have in the Vidhan Sabha.

Till two months ago, he was a police officer.

"Even when I was a cop, I didn't crush anything except corruption," he said.

Another first timer, Ratnesh Sada, is a former rickshaw puller and daily wage labourer turned JD(U) MLA from Sonbarsha. He chose a dramatic entry to remind everyone of his roots.

"I have won because the rickshaw pullers and the tonga wallahs, all of them, voted for me," he said.

Tradition and roots are perhaps the universal theme as several MLAs came in fancy native attire for their swearing in.

Gimmicks apart, perhaps what will really matter five years from now, is whether these newly-elected MLA's can make a real difference inside the Vidhan Sabha, rather than outside it.
