Williamnagar: Meghalaya Social Welfare Minister Deborah Ch Marak, who has been charge-sheeted for her alleged links with a militant outfit, will appear before a local court in Williamnagar today.
East Garo Hills police have charge-sheeted Ms Marak, who holds charge of the Social Welfare ministry in Meghalaya, for allegedly hatching a conspiracy with the banned outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) to influence the voters in the last Assembly elections held in February, 2013.
An independent candidate, who had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections against the minister, had filed an FIR last year against Ms Marak accusing her of taking the help of GNLA to influence the voters to vote for her in the elections.
According to the Meghalaya Police, the militants and the minister allegedly struck a deal for helping Ms Marak win the election in lieu of propping up the cause of GNLA for separate statehood.
