Highlights: Nephiu Rio Takes Oath As Nagaland Chief Minister For Fifth Term

Manik Saha will take oath as the Chief Minister of the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura on Thursday, a day after Holi.

National People's Party (NPP)'s Conrad Sangma and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)'s Neiphiu Rio took oath as Chief Ministers of Meghalaya and Nagaland respectively today.

Manik Saha will take oath as the Chief Minister of the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura on Thursday, a day after Holi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the oath-taking ceremonies of Mr Rio and Mr Sangma.

PM Modi Extends Wishes To Chief Ministers Of Meghalaya, Nagaland
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attended the swearing-in ceremonies of Meghalaya and Nagaland chief ministers and extended his best wishes to them.

"Joined the oath taking ceremony of Shri Neiphiu Rio Ji and his Council of Ministers. I am confident that this team, which is a blend of youth and experience, will continue the good governance trajectory of Nagaland and fulfil people's aspirations. My best wishes to them," he tweeted.

He earlier attended the oath taking ceremony of Conrad Sangma in Meghalaya. PM Modi said, "Attended the oath taking ceremony of Shri Conrad Sangma Ji and his ministerial team. Congratulations to those who took oath. Best wishes to them in their pursuit of taking Meghalaya to new heights of growth." 

The BJP is a junior partner to regional parties in both the states.

9 MLAs, Including 1 Woman Legislator, Take Oath As Ministers In Nagaland's Cabinet
Nine MLAs including a woman legislator Salhoutuonuo Kruse, took oath as ministers in the Nagaland cabinet on Tuesday. Kruse along with G Kaito Aye, Jacob Zhimomi, KG Kenye, P Paiwang Konyak, Metsubo Jamir, Temjen Imna Along, CL John and P Bashangmongba Chang took oath in Kohima.

History was scripted in Nagaland when the state elected its first women legislators in its 60 years of statehood. The state, which has had 13 Assemblies so far, never had a woman MLA before the 2022 result.

Neiphiu Rio Takes Oath as Nagaland Chief Minister For Record 5th Term
Nagaland political stalwart and its longest serving chief minister Neiphiu Rio assumes office as chief minister for a fifth consecutive term after a convincing win for his party and its ally, the BJP.

Together, the two parties have secured 33 seats in the 60-member Nagaland assembly.

Portfolios To Be Distributed In Next 2 Days: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma
After taking oath as Meghalaya Chief Minister, National People's Party chief Conrad Sangma on Tuesday said that the portfolios will be distributed in the next 24-48 hours.

While talking to the media persons in Shillong, Mr Sangma said, "We will continue to work on the foundations we have laid in the last five years for the development of the state. We are giving a lot of importance to youth and employment. The overall efficiency of benefits of various schemes reaching the grassroots level has improved. The portfolios will be distributed in the next 24-48 hours."

12-Member Council Of Ministers Take Oath In Meghalaya
Seven other MLAs from the National People's Party (NPP), two from the UDP and one each from BJP and HSPDP were also administered the oath of secrecy as ministers in Mr Sangma's cabinet by Governor Phagu Chauhan at Raj Bhavan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda and Assam Chief Minister and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma were among those present on the occasion.

Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, both from the NPP, took oath as deputy chief ministers.

Marcuise N Marak, Rakkam A Sangma, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Comingone Ymbon and AT Mondal were among those from the NPP who were sworn-in as cabinet ministers. BJP's AL Hek, UDP's Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla, and Shakliar Warjri of the HSPDP also took oath as ministers.

PM To Hold "Closed-Door" Meeting With Assam Cabinet During 2-Day Northeast Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday began his two-day visit to the Northeast, where he will attend the swearing-in ceremonies in Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland, and also hold a closed-door meeting with the Assam cabinet.
