Shillong: An alert was sounded in all Meghalaya districts following IMD forecast of heavy to extreme rainfall in isolated places in Meghalaya and neighbouring Assam, officials said today.
"We have issued orders for DCs and SPs in all 11 districts to remain alert in case of an emergency arising out of the extreme weather forecast in the north-east region for the next 36 hours," State Chief secretary P Barkos O Warjri told PTI.
He said the Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo, who is in charge of Revenue and Disaster Management department, has asked the state government officials to keep a close watch and take appropriate action to meet any eventuality.
"Commissioners of Division of both Khasi - Jaintia Hills Division and Garo Hills Division have been instructed to be in touch with all the Deputy Commissioners and monitor the situation closely," an official statement said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has in its forecast said that there will be a heavy to heavy rainfall on July 3 and 4 in few isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya.
