Strongly condemning deaths of two civilians in the firing by security forces in Pulwama on Sunday, President of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti, termed this incident as "unfortunate and uncalled for".
She said the unfortunate incident could have been avoided and claimed lives of two students including an young woman and injuring nearly a dozen people.
In a statement issued in Srinagar on Sunday, Ms Mufti expressed her condolences to the families, who lost their kin in the firing.
Expressing solidarity with the families of victims, she said that such incidents are uncalled for and security forces must observe restraint while dealing with civilians in such a situation.
Mohammad Khalil Band, the legislator from Pulwama, also condemned the deaths. Expressing anguish over the incident, Mr Band said that security forces must be more restrained in their approach.

The woman who was killed was identified as Shaista, a student while the other is a 19-year-old boy named Danish - both residents of Pulwama district.
Officials said clashes broke out following an encounter between terrorists and security forces at Kakpora area. One terrorist was killed in the encounter.
Separatist groups have called for a strike against the killings tomorrow in the valley.
