New Delhi: Meira Kumar on Wednesday said she felt "greatly honoured" for being considered for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, which was a "rare and historic opportunity".
"I consider myself greatly honoured for this rare and historic opportunity, which I have been given. It will be my endeavour to run the House well," she told reporters before her election as the first woman Speaker.
Kumar, who resigned earlier as Union Minister for Water Resources to take up the Speaker's post, said "I will try and maintain decorum in the House and give fair chance to all members".
