Mumbai: The Shiv Sena today criticised External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's speech on Monday at the UN General Assembly for not calling out Pakistan by name for spreading terror in the subcontinent.

"People like Nawaz Sharif and Pervez Musharraf challenge India by taking its name, whereas India fears to take Pakistan's name. Why? Mere lectures won't create fear in the mind of Pakistan and nor are such speeches (Ms Swaraj's speech at the UN General Assembly) a tribute to our martyrs," Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena said.

"Cornering Pakistan at the UN is a waste of time. It won't prevent another attack and it is just a matter of time until we face another Uri like attack," Mr Raut added.

"It would have been much better if India announced at the UN that it was ending all ties with Pakistan. We give great speeches, be it Prime Minister Modi or External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj - but words won't punish those who killed our soldiers," Mr Raut said.

On Monday, Ms Swaraj, in a strongly worded statement blamed Pakistan for terrorist attacks in India. She also said that contrary to what Pakistan claimed, India had no preconditions for talks but now there was no point in being friendly with a hostile country.

Delivering a very strong message to Pakistan at the 71st session of the UNGA, Ms Swaraj said, "My firm advice to Pakistan is: abandon this dream. Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and will always remain so."

Accusing Pakistan of using terrorists to spread unrest in Jammu and Kashmir, Ms Swaraj said that the nations which use terrorism as a state policy were the biggest violators of human rights.

"In our midst, there are nations that still speak the language of terrorism, that nurture it, peddle it, and export it. To shelter terrorists has become their calling card. We must identify these nations, and hold them to account. These nations, in which UN designated terrorists roam freely, lead processions and deliver their poisonous sermons of hate with impunity, are as culpable as the terrorists they harbor. Such nations should have no place in the comity of nations," Ms Swaraj said on Monday.
