Jamnagar: A MiG-21 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Bed village in Gujarat's Jamnagar district on Saturday. The pilot managed to eject, and is safe, police said.
"A MiG-21 crashed at Rasoolnagar area near Bed village, 20 kilometers from Jamangar city," District Superintendent of Police Neeraj Badgujar told Press Trust of India.
"The pilot safely ejected and landed in tide-pool created by the sea water near the area," he said.
The pilot, who sustained injuries, was later rescued by an Indian Airforce helicopter, Mr Badgujar said, adding that police and fire department officials had also reached the spot.
No Air Force officials have been available for comment as yet.
In 2012, two IAF choppers had collided and crashed in the same area -- between
Bed and
Samrath villages. Nine people had been killed in the incident.
Today's MiG-21 crash follows that of a MiG-27 fighter jet crash on January 27, 2015 in Rajasthan's Barmer district.
