New Delhi:
A Hizbul Mujahideen militant, sent to create sleeper cells that would then carry out big terrorist attacks, was arrested in Delhi last night, the police have said.
Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Ashok Gupta, said Abdulla Inquilabi is a Pakistani who has killed 25 people in different militant attacks. He said Inquilabi is a self-styled divisional commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen and had been active for the last 10 years.
Inquilabi was caught by Delhi Police's Special Cell, the elite anti-terror wing, from Deer Park near the Indian Institute of Technology in south Delhi, soon after he alighted from a bus. There was a brief gun-battle before he was arrested.
"As soon as he alighted, we tried to catch him. He tried to escape and went inside the park and we chased him. In a bid to escape, he opened fire. Three-four rounds were fired," a senior police official said.
Inquilabi had reached the capital five days ago, the official said.
The suspected militant told the investigators that he had come to the capital to find a hide-out as Jammu and Kashmir police was searching for him, the official said, adding that there were about ten cases registered against him there.
Inquilabi is suspected to be involved in several Hizbul operations in the country, besides collection of funds for the terror outfit.
