Militants attacked a police station at the heart of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, killing two people, before escaping. An intense search is on for them.
One policemen and one civilian were killed and four securitymen injured in the gunbattle that went on for a few hours after the militants first lobbed a grenade at the heavily guarded police station in the north Kashmir town.
A senior police officer said the grenade hit the roof of the police station building, rolled down and exploded near the main entrance.
When senior police officers reached the explosion site, the militants opened fire, triggering the gunbattle. After intense firing between the two sides, the militants escaped.
