Minister of State, Home, RPN Singh addresses the media: highlights

New Delhi: Minister of State, Home, RPN Singh, held a press conference to give updates on the operation to rescue people stranded in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh after the floods.

Here are the highlights:

• 22 helicopters of the Armed and Paramilitary forces have been evacuating people stuck around Kedarnath
• 3000 people have been rescued by the Army and NDRF
• Weather has been favourable to the rescue efforts
• Over 13 teams have been deployed
  
• Media reports suggest 60,000 people are stranded.  Actual reports suggest some people stuck in their hotel rooms and their homes
• People who are in grave danger will be rescued on priority basis
• I don't want to comment on Sushma Swaraj's tweet
• We don't want to politicize this, we want to rescue everyone stranded at the earliest
