Minor earthquake in Gujarat's Kutch district

Ahmedabad: A magnitude 3.6 earthquake hit Gujarat's Kutch district on Friday afternoon, a senior official said.

Rapar was the epicentre of the quake which was recorded at 13.50 pm, said BK Rastogi, Director, Institute of Seismological Research (ISR).

"An earthquake measuring 3.6 on Richter scale was felt in remote areas of Rapar, Bhimasar and Chitrod in Kutch district," Mr Rastogi said.

"The epicentre was 16km south-east of Rapar. It can be attributed to normal background seismicity or migrated seismicity from 2001," he said.

There were no reports of any casualty or damage to property.

Kutch district was hit by a devastating earthquake in January 2001.
