New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today spoke in the Rajya Sabha on the missing coal files relating to the allocation of coal blocks. Here are the highlights:
- The govt is making all efforts to retrieve all papers requisitioned by the CBI
- Majority of papers have been submitted to the CBI
- Government has nothing to hide- more than 2000 pages of documentation have been already handed over to CBI
- Our intention of facilitating the investigation cannot be questioned. Govt has provided full support to CAG and later CBI
- Govt will carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that the guilty are brought to book
- The ongoing investigation by the CBI is closely being monitored by the Supreme Court
- The govt shall do its best to find and locate the papers and will hand over the papers to CBI within the stipulated time frame as directed by Supreme Court
- If the govt is unable to locate some of those papers, than as directed by the Supreme Court, a report will be filed with the CBI
- The government shall follow the directions of the Supreme Court in letter and spirit
- Request the honourable members of Parliament not to draw hasty conclusions
