The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) today announced that the party will continue to oppose Pakistani artistes working in Indian-made films. This came days after Pakistani theatre owners decided to lift their self-imposed suspension on Indian movies.
"Though Pakistan resume screening of Indian cinema, our stand will remain unchanged, until Pak stops attacks on Indian lands," Ameya Khopkar, who heads the cinema wing of the MNS, said in a tweet today.
The MNS had issued an ultimatum to Pakistani artistes to leave India following the terror attack in Uri in September. This also cast a threat over the release of filmmaker Karan Johar's "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", which co-stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
However, it was released after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis mediated a dialogue between Mr Johar and MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
On December 11, Bollywood actor-producer Shah Rukh Khan met Mr Thackeray at the latter's residence. The meeting assumed significance as Mr Khan's upcoming film, "Raees", features Pakistani actress Mahira Khan.
