Aligarh: An angry mob torched a coach of the Jalpaiguri-Delhi Mahananda Express on Wednesday morning in Haathras district of Uttar Pradesh.

The mob was made up of local people protesting against the shutting down of a meter- gauge railway station in Haathras, and were demanding that express trains be halted at the broad gauge station.
The protest began peacefully, but things took a violent turn after some of the protestors' pelted stones at the local police standing guard at the railway station. The police fired in the air in retaliation.
The circle officer of the area police station and six constables were injured in the stone pelting.
The ADG (Law and Order) of UP A K Jain has left for Haathras. The police are trying to control the situation.
