Three men arrested for the alleged gangrape of a teenager in Surat were on Saturday attacked by angry people at the city hospital where they were taken for a medical checkup by the police.
The men, two of them sons of policemen, were being taken out of the hospital after the tests were over when they were surrounded by a large group of people, including women. The accused were thrown to the ground, punched and kicked by the mob as the policemen tried to fend off the attackers.
The chaos continued for over 20 minutes after which the police managed to take way the accused -- Shahid Sayed, Tariq Sayed and Abu Bakr. Police said one of the accused was badly injured in the attack but did not identify him.
The three men allegedly abducted the 17-year-old girl and gangraped her in a moving car in the city on Friday.
The girl and her male friend were on their way to attend tuition early on Friday morning when the accused posed as policemen and forced them to sit inside the car.
The victim's friend, who is also a student of class XII, was tied up inside the car while the girl was sexually assaulted by the three men inside the moving vehicle.
Shahid is a son of Circle Police Inspector of Dholka town of Ahmedabad district, while Tariq's father is a police constable serving with the city police.
