New Delhi: A performance review of ministers before a mega reshuffle on Sunday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government featured just two boxes - positive and negative - sources have told NDTV.
Based on their work, ministers' performance was classified as "positive" or "negative"; there was no other grading.
An excel spreadsheet of the ministers and their rating was reportedly submitted to PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, and it was the reference point when decisions were taken on changes to the cabinet.
Ministers belonging to the BJP's allies were also graded similarly.
The ministers were also judged on how proactively and efficiently they set upon tasks assigned by the party, including the Sankalp Yatra, Tiranga Yatra, celebrations for the birth centenary of Deendayal Upadhyaya and "Teen Saal Bemisaal" programmes aimed at taking the government's schemes and achievements to the masses. How each minister handled these campaigns and their promotion has been closely examined by the party.
It is mostly ministers who haven't aced their review that are being served pink slips, sources say, though some are being shifted with an eye on upcoming state polls and the 2019 national election.
Rajiv Pratap Rudy's exit comes days after his Skills Development ministry came under the scrutiny of the Prime Minister's Office. A flagship scheme has been criticized for failing to achieve targets.
Faggan Singh Kulaste and Bandaru Dattatreya have also been shown the door, mainly over their less-than-impressive performance.
