Monsoon keeps its date with Delhi

New Delhi:

Monsoon kept its date with Delhi as showers of relief poured over the city on Tuesday. The capital had already woken up to a cloudy and pleasant morning. Though the rain was mild, it was enough to bring Delhiites out of their homes to celebrate its arrival.

The northern limit of the monsoon had covered entire Bihar, Jharkhand, most parts of UP, Uttarakhand and some areas of Rajasthan on June 29. But in just a gap of 12 hours it moved like a supersonic jet and covered entire J&K, Himachal Pradesh, some parts of Punjab and Haryana.

"Monsoon is not delayed and light to heavy rainfall is likely in the next few dates," said B P Yadav, Director, Weather Forecasting, Meteorological Department.

These last few days, cloudy skies and wind pattern in North India proved favourable for the monsoon to arrive on time. And with this, monsoon has now covered 95 per cent of the country.
