The southwest monsoon is likely to hit Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh by July 1, Meteorological Department (MeT) officials said today.
"There is a high probability that monsoon will advance into Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh by July 1," Chandigarh's Met department director Surender Paul said.
The monsoon this year is likely to be 97 per cent of its Long Period Average (LPA) over north-west India, comprising Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, some isolated places in Punjab and Haryana received showers, while there was drizzling in Chandigarh today.
