New Delhi: The monsoon session of the Parliament will be held from August 5 to August 30, government sources said today.
The session will be marked by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, after having recently passed the food security ordinance, now aggressively trying to push through the flagship Bill, which needs the parliamentary ratification to become an Act.
The Congress has been accused of pushing the Bill through an ordinance in a hurry for political benefits not just by rivals like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but also by Mulayam Singh Yadav whose Samajwadi Party (SP) provides external support to the UPA government.
The food security ordinance has to be passed within six weeks of the commencement of the monsoon session, failing which it will lapse.
Other contentious legislations to be debated in the session are the Direct Taxes Code Bill, the Real Estate Regulatory Bill and the proposed amendment to the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
