Monsoon sets in over Gujarat

Ahmedabad: To a great relief of the farmers, monsoon has set in over Gujarat, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The monsoon usually hits this part of India's western coast around June 15, but got delayed this year.

"Monsoon had touched Veraval coast around June 17, but after that it had been static. Now, the South-West monsoon has advanced to some more parts of the state. In next few days it is likely to cover the entire state," IMD regional additional director Manorama Mohanti said.

Heavy to very heavy rains could occur at isolated places over Gujarat and Saurasthra in the next 36 hours.

Since yesterday morning, the top rainfall-recording districts of the state were Vadodara (70 mm), Bhavnagar (45.8 mm), Vallabh Vidya Nagar(47 mm), Amreli (39.4 mm) and Ahmedabad (33.6 mm).

The IMD has also advised the fishermen not to venture into sea.
