Monsoon to arrive in Northwest India in the next 48 hours: weather department
New Delhi: The monsoon is due to arrive in Northwest India in the next 48 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department said. The monsoon, which will be arriving a week earlier that predicted, will bring much-needed respite to several regions in the north which have been reeling under intense heat for the past few weeks.

People in the national capital woke up to a cloudy morning today, with the weather department forecasting thundershowers later in the day. According to an earlier forecast, the monsoon was set to arrive in Delhi on June 29.

Some regions in North India received rainfall last week bringing down the temperature a notch, however, it remained hot and humid in the region.

In a prelude to the monsoon, Dehradun is already witnessing rains, popularly known as 'chota barsaat' in the foothills.

The southwest monsoon arrived in Kerala on June 1.
