The last rites of Chhabi Roy, mother of Sahara India group chief, Subrata Roy Sahara, were performed at the Baikunth Dham in Lucknow on Saturday evening.
Ninety-five-year-old Chhabi Roy died yesterday after prolonged illness and her mortal remains were consigned to flames in the presence of prominent personalities from film and political field.
Chhabi Roy, who was born in Araria district of Bihar, had been critically ailing for last two years and was at a makeshift hospital at Sahara Shaher, Lucknow.
Sahara chief Subrata Roy last night walked out of Tihar jail, where he was lodged for over two years, after the Supreme Court granted him a four-week parole to attend the funeral of his mother.
A large number of people including members of Sahara India Pariwar and well-wishers from all walks of life took part in the funeral procession.
Prominent among those who paid their condolences were Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav, film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Raj Babbar among others.
