Most-Wanted Lashkar Terrorist, Carrying Reward of Rs 10 Lakh, Killed in Kashmir

An encounter broke out at village Begum Bagh in Kakapora area in Pulwama district when police went there following a tip off.

Srinagar: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was gunned down today after an encounter with security forces in South Kashmir's Pulwama District.

Listed in the most-wanted 'A+' category by the police, Irshad Ahmad Ganie was carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh.

A resident of Kakapora, Ganie was involved in several terror attacks, including a major attack on an army convoy at Hyderpora, Srinagar in 2013. Eight soldiers were killed and 16 others were injured in the attack.

According to police officials, most of the attacks in South Kashmir and in bypass area of Srinagar were carried out by Ganie.

Ganie was killed in an encounter that broke out at village Begum Bagh in Kakapora area when police went there following a tip off about the presence of some terrorists.

The gun-battle erupted when the terrorists opened fire at the police. Soon, the Army was pressed into service and in the joint operation, Ganie was finally killed.
