Guwahati, Assam:
One of the most wanted from the terror group, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songojit faction) or the NDFB (S) and six other Jihadi terror suspects have been arrested by joint forces of the Indian Army, Sashastra Seema Bal and state police in Assam.
The joint forces managed to catch Rabi Basumatary, the army chief of NDFB (S) from Chirang district in lower Assam. Considered a big catch, the terrorist also known as Rongjabaja, along with his body guard, Jwnglaw Narzary, were surrounded, challenged and arrested near the Hakua River.
According to sources, one AK 56 rifle, 170 rounds of AK series ammunition, 50 rounds of INSAS ammunition and four hand grenades were recovered from them.
The operation was launched in the early hours of September 25 after receiving specific intelligence about the terror group's movement.
A joint forces team led by a senior official from Assam Police, LR Bishnoi, arrested six Jihadi terror suspects from the Burabari jungle area where they were undergoing training in the area.
Police sources told NDTV that these youths were given religious trainings with false ideologies and are brainwashed into joining the terror movements. After which they were to be given combat and arms training.
"This is a very alarming trend that these people are increasingly targeting the youth from deprived families in the lower Assam. Most of the new recruits are either 8th standard pass-outs or high school dropout and some totally illiterate," said Mr Bishnoi.
This is the third major catch by security forces in the region this month.
Police sources added that the arrested Jihadis have accepted to be a part of the Bangladeshi terror group Jamat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB), recruited from Nalbari,Barpeta and Nagaon districts.
The National Investigation Agency, which is probing the rise of Jihadi modules in Assam, has confirmed to NDTV that it will soon bring the recent cases in Chirang districts under its ambit.
