Kanpur:
There is a ray of hope for 21-year-old Alka Tiwari who has been battling blood cancer. A Rajya Sabha MP Ganga Charan has donated Rs 20 lakh rupees for her bone marrow transplant after NDTV showed how the poor girl's family could not afford her treatment.
She had moved a court in Kanpur saying that if the government refuses to pay for her treatment then she should be allowed euthanasia.
The girl from Kanpur has been battling Aplastic Anemia, a form of blood cancer, for the past nine years.
The family funds have run out. Her brother Brij Bihari sold off the family land and his mother's jewellery to raise money for Alka's treatment.
He sells stationary to pay for her weekly transfusions, but cannot afford the Rs 12-lakh bone marrow transplant.
"We have filed a plea in court asking the government to save my daughter's life. And if they cant help us, then at least accept her euthanasia plea (court main, hum sarkar se madad maan rahe hain, kee humaree bitiyaa kee zindagi bach jaye ... agar zindagi nahee bach rahee hai , nahee koi madad kar raha hai, toh humaree beti ko iccha mrityu de dee jaye)," said Alka's mother, Surajmukhi.
Doctors say, if not operated upon, Alka has very little time left.
