A delegation of opposition MPs from the TDP, BJP, Left, AIADMK and AGP have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking for a probe into the allegation by a sitting judge of the Madras High Court that a Cabinet minister tried to influence a judgement in court.
However, Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, who had earlier condemned the incident, on Friday, said the judge had denied any call from a minister.
Earlier this month, in a letter to the Chief Justice, the Madras High Court judge had said that the minister did not talk to him, but the lawyer of the accused called the minister on his phone and asked the judge to speak, which he did not.
Reacting to the incident, Constitution experts said that even this was bad enough.
"If this is the case that lawyer went to judge chambers and called the minister on his mobile, the minister can't and shouldn't be let off," said Rajeev Dhawan, Constitution Expert.
The judge did not named the minister yet but Jayalalithaa had pointed fingers at IT Minister A Raja, who denied the charge.
