Sensing the gravity of the situation, the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio requested National Socialist Council of Nagaland Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) leader T Muivah to put off his visit to Manipur. Three Nagas were killed by security forces in a firing over Muivah's visit to his ancestral village in the state.

There was a shutdown in four districts of Manipur and people were out on the streets silently protesting and observing black day for Thursday's killings.

The Manipur government stands firmly opposed to the visit but Muivah's supporters aren't giving up either.

Atchiya Mary Moro, a protester says, "If Muivah is not allowed to enter we will retaliate."

And retaliate, they have.

The situation gets tense as the chief minister's effigies are being burnt and the national highway leading to Imphal has been blocked indefinitely.

The protests have even spilled to Delhi as Naga students protested and destroyed property outside Manipur Bhawan.
