New Delhi: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday accepted Amar Singh's resignation from all SP posts.

Earlier this year, Singh resigned from all the positions he held in the party.

The Samajwadi Party president said he has accepted Singh's resignation with a heavy heart.

Singh, who is in many ways the national face of the party, had cited health reasons for his decision, saying that he could not cope with the pressure of party work and that doctors had advised he take it easy.

Speaking on NDTV's show Your Call, Amar Singh had said, "At the age of 53, I am entitled to earned leave. After 20 years of hard work, I want to look after my family and my children."

He categorically denied he was quitting active politics, and did not rule out joining any other party, though he did say he would not do so at his own initiative. But he also said he would accept a limited role in the Samajwadi Party if party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav planned some division of labour.

And soon after Mulayam Singh accepted his resignation, Amar Singh said he was grateful to the former and would continue to work as his "committed soldier" till he was allowed to do so.

"I am thankful to Mulayam Singh Yadav for appreciating my need to take rest considering my poor health....I will always remain a committed soldier of Mulayam Singh to the best of my ability till he allows me to do so," Amar Singh said.

Singh, who is in Mumbai campaigning for SP leader Abu Azmi's son Farhan for the forthcoming Assembly by-election to Bhiwandi, said he had received intimation of the acceptance of his resignation through a fax sent to him.
