Lucknow:
In September, Akhilesh Yadav will complete six months as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. His father, Mulayam, who is also the chief of the Samajwadi Party, has said the government isn't meeting its targets. Akhilesh said today that he accepts the criticism. "He is our leader...we will try to follow his advice, do what he suggests," he said today.
At a meeting held on Tuesday at the chief minister's residence, Mulayam pulled up ministers and state legislators, warning them that the government needs to work harder to deliver the promises made by the party in the campaign for the elections, led by 39-year-old Akhilesh.
Mulayam also pointed out that the general elections are less than two years away, so the state government must move quickly to deliver better services to the state. He allegedly picked his son to head the government in UP partly so that he could spend time in Delhi, negotiating a bigger role at the centre for his party.
He warned ministers that recent outbursts against each other were damaging the government's image.
