Lucknow:
It's not just the people of Uttar Pradesh who sense that crime is on the rise in the state. Even members of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's family share the sentiment.
A relative of the Chief Minister's father Mulayam Singh Yadav has threatened to resign as MLA from the Bidhuna Assembly seat citing deteriorating law and order in his constituency in Auraiya district.
Pramod Gupta says he has been forced to do so because despite assurances from the police, crime in his constituency is on the rise. His repeated attempts to reach out to the Chief Minister and the police establishment in the state have resulted in no significant improvement, he claims.
Mr Gupta is a first time MLA. He is married to Mulayam Singh Yadav's sister-in-law.
In March this year, Mulayam Singh had also publicly castigated his son and the government for failing to check law and order.
