New Delhi:
Hours after three powerful blasts rocked Mumbai on Wednesday, Home Minister P Chidambaram was in the city to take stock of the situation and meet the injured and their family members.
He visited all the three blast sites in Mumbai - Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House and Kabutarkhana.
The Home Minister also issued this statement on the terror attacks in Mumbai.
"Three bomb blasts have taken place in Mumbai. After speaking to the Chief Minister, we are able to confirm 10 deaths. 54 people have been taken to hospital with injuries. The number of injuries could be higher, the death toll could also rise.
The blasts occurred at about 6.45 pm within minute of each other. Therefore, this was a coordinated attack by terrorists. The Mumbai Police, medical services and fire services have been on the scene since about 7.15 pm.
The National Security Guard (NSG) which has a hub in Mumbai is standing by. One CSFL team in Delhi and one CSFL team in Hyderabad are being rushed to Mumbai by special aircraft.
Apart from the three blasts, there is no information of any other blast. The entire city of Mumbai is on high alert."
