Mumbai chaos, local trains ran late

Mumbai: After half-hour delays this afternoon, local trains ran late by about 10-15 minutes in Mumbai. The delays are mostly along the Central and Harbour Lines.  A spokesperson for the railways said 10 per cent of trains on the Central Line were cancelled.

Railway officials say a hoax bomb call in morning at Dombivili station interrupted schedules and motormen refused to work overtime to help clear the backlog. That led to a major jam on the Central, Harbour Lines; Sixty stations  were affected because of this. Railway motormen claim they are stressed and overworked because vacancies have not been filled.

However, representatives of unions for motormen clarify that they are not on strike.
