Mumbai: Three suspects were detained in connection with the kidnapping and murder of four friends on a hillock of suburban Kurar even as the in-charge of the police station, in whose jurisdiction the gruesome incident occurred, has been transferred for his alleged laxity.
Friends Ganesh Karanje (24), Dinesh Ahire (25), Chetan Dhule (24) and Bharat Kundle (27) had disappeared on Saturday.
Their families alleged that despite alerting the police about it on the same day, a case of kidnapping was registered only yesterday by Kurar police, a few hours before the bodies were found.
The victims were found with their throats slit on a hillock in Kurar village in Malad yesterday and their family members brought evening peak-hour traffic to a halt for half-an-hour on the Western Express Highway protesting police inaction. The riot control police had to be called in to disperse the angry mob.
"Mohan Sankhe, senior inspector at Kurar police station has been shifted to Local Arms control room after the incident. There are complaints that Sankhe has not taken the matter seriously. We are inquiring if there was any laxity on the part of the police that resulted in this incident," Rajnish Seth, Joint Police Commissioner (Law & Order) told PTI.
Another official said three persons suspected to be involved in the murder, have been detained and their questioning was on.
According to police, Bharat, who works as a water purifier repairer, along with one Sachin Dhuri, had gone to a Dindoshi clinic to collect payment for a purifier.
