Mumbai: Salvaging operations of the MSC Chitra, ship that is responsible for Mumbai oil slick, was badly hit after the anchor of the accommodation barge stationed for salvage gave way and broke.
It is believed that bad weather affected the operations.
The accommodation barge was also meant to pump oil from the ship and carry staff to the ship apart from the recovery of the vessel remains.
Also the container recovery operations from the ports navigation channel were impacted due to the changing weather.
Earlier in the day, fish samples were found to be contaminated due to the oil spill. Near about 500 kilo grams of fish from the Sassoon dock in South Mumbai and Bhaucha Dhakka were found contaminated.
The samples were tested by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation .
Ever since the collision, the oil slick has been spreading. The slick has now started appearing at Nariman Point and Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai, also spreading across Vashi, Airoli, Uran, Mandwa and Elephanta caves.
