Mumbai Police probe Headley's terror plot

Mumbai: Mumbai Police is investingating leads on US national David Headley and his associate Tahawar Hussein Rana, both arrested by the FBI for plotting a major terror attack in India at Lashkar-e-Toiba's behest.

A police team searched a building Mumbai's Tardeo area on Sunday, where Headley is reported to have operated a visa agency for almost two years.

According to police sources, Headley visited Mumbai at least four times, and also met Lashkar operative Rana. He made the visit between July 2007 and 2009, sources have said. He stayed in South Mumbai's Breach Candy area. The area is very close to the US Consulate and Malabar Hills.

The US government had earlier said that Rana and Headley had picked out a military site in Delhi. US authorities recorded conversations of Headley, and Rana - a Canadian national who was born in Pakistan, discussing the possibility of an attack on the NDC, which provides training to top Defence and Civil Services officers in national and international security.
