Mumbai schools close for a week, theatres shut for 3 days

Mumbai:

Schools, colleges and coaching classes in Mumbai will be closed for a week from Thursday, in view of the swine flu situation in the state, Maharashtra Government said on Wednesday.

There are about 1600 Bombay Municipal Corporation and private schools in the city. All educational institutions will be closed.

While schools and colleges will remain closed for a week, theatres and multiplexes will remain shut for three days, a senior government official said.

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure in the wake of rising cases of the deadly viral infection in the state, which has recorded maximum swine flu deaths so far.

Most gatherings are also being called off in Mumbai.

All malls in Navi Mumbai will remain closed for the next four days.

The popular Dahi Handi celebrations during Janmashtami are also being cancelled in several areas of Mumbai and Pune.
