Mumbai: Angry Mumbai commuters agitated against trains being delayed during peak office hours in Mumbai on Tuesday. Police had to fire a few rounds in the air to control an irate mob in Nala Sopara.
Trains were running late on the Western line since morning. The disruption in rail service was caused by the snapping of overhead cables. Though the cables were then repaired, train services were only slowly getting back to normal. There is a huge jam on the western highway, though trains are still running packed.
This is the second consecutive day that trains are running late in Mumbai, and people waiting also attacked railway officials at some places.
The local train network is the nerve centre of Mumbai's transport system. Millions of people in the metropolis travel every day by these trains and a disruption in services causes major chaos.
