Mumbaikars shocked over gangrape incident

Mumbaikars shocked over gangrape incident
Mumbai:

Even a week after the horrifying incident where an American student was allegedly gangraped in Mumbai, the residents continue to voice their anger online as well as on the streets of Mumbai.

Messages are pouring in from friends on the Orkut pages of the accused -- Jaskaran Bhullar and Vinarma Soni.

They are two of the six men accused of raping the 23-year-old American student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences on April 19.

All six are students of reputed Mumbai colleges and had moved here to study. Their friends in the city and around the world are watching their arrests with disbelief.

"I choose to not believe what I hear. I hope you are innocent," one of the posts said.

But these comments are drowned by the larger anger being voiced, not just by Mumbai but from the hometowns of the accused as well.

"You have ruined the name of Jamshedpur. If you have any compassion you should surrender," another post said.

Sentiments are being echoed on the streets of Mumbai as well.

"They should get the death penalty or life imprisonment," a Mumbai resident said.

These are the extreme reactions from a city that is trying to deal with the shock of its latest shame.
