Mussoorie: Locals in Uttarakhand's Mussoorie celebrated Dussehra on Thursday with an age-old tradition which locals say they are trying to keep alive even as its popularity among the younger generation wanes.

About a dozen tableaus decked with children dressed as deities made their way down the roads of the hill-station as part of the ritual led by the Sanatan Dharm Temple Committee.

"Dussehra heralds the victory of good over evil. We are trying to keep alive a tradition which unfortunately the younger generation is moving away from," said Rakesh Aggarwal.

Thakur Chandrabhan, a native of Roorkee, is an integral part of the procession and has been playing the role of Lord Hanuman since last 50 years.

"I am proud to be part of this tradition and will do so as long as am alive," said Chandrabhan.

The annual ritual, which is being carried out since past nine decades, holds a special significance and is celebrated with fervor across the hill state.

The procession not just celebrates the triumph of good over evil but it also plays a pivotal role in the lives of the residents who hope to keep a tradition alive.
