Mussoorie Couple Allegedly Commit Suicide Within 72 Hours of Each Other

The Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Mussoorie

Dehradun: A woman in Mussoorie jumped from the Lakshi Narayan Temple on Thursday and died, days after her husband jumped to his death from the same place.

Charu, who had been married to 38-year-old Sumit Agarwal for 15 years, fell on the concrete ground of a school in the temple premises and died, police said. The couple has left behind a 12-year-old son and an elderly mother.

According to the police, those close to the family say that Mr Agarwal had been depressed because of a family dispute; his wife probably in shock couldn't come to terms with her husband's death which led her to take the extreme step.

Sudama, an employee of the temple told reporters that they had taken the decision to barricade the terrace, but could not do so due to heavy rainfall in the last few weeks. "Little did we know that two people would jump off the temple terrace in a matter of three days," he said.

Police are currently investigating the matter.
