Muthalik sent to judicial custody over Mysore violence

Mysore:

Fringe right wing group Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik was arrested in Karnataka on Saturday for inciting communal clashes in Mysore. He has also been charged with desecrating a place of worship.

Muthalik was produced in the Mysore sessions court on Saturday. After his involvement in the  infamous pub attacks in Mangalore this January, the Mysore police suspected he had a role to play in the July 2 Udaygiri riots.

Muthalik will be in judicial custody till July 28.

"We have filed a bail application also since the prosecutor sought time to file objection to our bail application. The case is adjourned till July 28 to file objection and hear our arguments," said Keshavamurthy, lawyer of Pramod Muthalik.

With the Mysore police seeking time from the court for further interrogation of Muthalik, it will be clear in the next few days whether the Rama Sene chief incited communal violence in an otherwise-calm Mysore.
