Manchester:
It has been nine days but there is no trace of Gurdeep Hayer, the man of Indian origin who went missing in Manchester last week. 20-year-old Gurdeep was last seen in the early hours of January 2.
The UK police have now spoken to a taxi driver who picked up Gurdeep from outside a nightclub. The driver, who was identified through CCTV footage, told the police that a few minutes after boarding the taxi, Gurdeep asked him if he could stop.
The driver stopped the taxi and Gurdeep then paid his fare. He got out of the taxi and that was the last time Gurdeep was seen, police said.
According to the police, Gurdeep had travelled to Manchester from West Bromwich on December 31, 2011 to celebrate New Year's Eve and stayed with friends in the Fallowfield area. He reportedly went out again with his friends on the night of January 1. Gurdeep was seen leaving the nightclub on his own and getting into a taxi, at about 2.30am the following morning, police said.
