His family raised an alarm the next day when he did not return home as expected, the Sydney Morning Herald said.

The police, which launched an investigation, found the engineering student's bike at the Blacktown railway station yesterday.

Police said there were concerns about his welfare as he has been in Australia only for a few months and it is believed he does not know many people other than his immediate family.

Police have found his abandoned bike at the station, CCTV cameras also caught glimpses of Abhijit at the Central Station.

His family says he had no mobile phone and little money on him. He had arrived in Australia only four months back to pursue an engineering course.

We don't have details. No information as to where he has gone.Police is quite helpful after Indian Consulate intervened. But they don't have any real clue. We're hoping he's alive but we're obviously worried about his safety," said Dr Yadu Singh, a family friend.
