Kohima: Nagaland Government has recommended CBI inquiry into the March 5 Dimapur lynching case, Chief Minister TR Zeliang said today.
The decision was taken by the cabinet at a meeting held here last night, Mr Zeliang told PTI.
A mob had broken into Dimapur Central Jail on March 5, dragged out the rape accused Syed Sarif Uddin Khan, paraded him down the streets naked and lynched him.
The accused, who hailed from Karimganj district of Assam, was arrested on the charge of raping a college student in Dimapur on February 24 and remanded in judicial custody the next day.
Dimapur police has so far arrested 55 people in connection with the jail break and lynching of the rape accused while photos of 34 other suspects involved in the incident have been released.
The photos were collected from clippings of the lynching incident obtained from various sources, the police said.
