Nainital:

The famous Nainital lake in Uttarakhand is drying up as water level has gone down by 30 feet due to heat wave in the hills.

Tourists who have come here to beat the heat are sweating it out. The mercury has crossed 32 degrees in Nainital, the highest in 30 years.

"I was born here, but it's the first time that the lake's water has depleted so much," said Sonu, a resident of Nainital.

Normally, about 15 mm of rain is recorded in May-June in the area. But this year it has been less than half -- just six mm. The pre-monsoon showers has eluded the hill station leading to many forest fires as well.
