Nalini Sriharan moved out of Vellore prison

Chennai: Chennai's Puzhal jail is the new address of Nalini Sriharan, who is serving a life term in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

She was transferred from Vellore jail amid tight security. A few months ago, Nalini sought to be relocated to Chennai alleging harassment by Vellore jail officials.

Another reason cited was that it would be easier for her family that's based in Chennai to visit her once every week.

"We are satisfied about this although it has come after much delay. She had made her complaint in April," said Nalini's lawyer, Radhakrishnan.

Government sources have told NDTV that a two member panel probed into the complaints made by Nalini and found the harassment charges to be false, but the decision to shift her was taken to allow her family easy access to her.

Although Nalini was given a separate A-class cell at the Vellore jail, sources say in Chennai she has been given a B-class ward, which she would share with many other inmates. Food will not be separately cooked for her, and she'd be served what's prepared in the central kitchen. This is seen as a punishment for using mobile phone in the Vellore jail, something her lawyers have denied.

Nalini's death sentence was commuted to life after Sonia Gandhi intervened. Although Nalini has spent 19 years in jail, the Tamil Nadu government has turned down her plea for a premature release.
