Nano in the neighbourhood

Nano in the neighbourhood
Mumbai:

After rituals Ashok Vichare the proud first owner of a Nano leaves with his family and all eyes are on the compact hatch as it takes to the streets.

Its first stop was the Siddhivinayak temple for some more rituals. From temple priests to security guards everyone wants a glimpse of the Little Wonder. Some devotees can't keep their hands off.

And everyone who can lay his hands on a camera clicks pictures of the common man's car. As it bids Tata to its fans the car makes its way to the Vichare home.

The Vichare couple in the front and the family packed in the back like stars as the car grabs eyeballs for over a hour and a half it takes to reach their Antop Hill home for yet another round of rituals.

The neighbours can't stop staring.

"We are quite proud. We'll tell everyone that the first Nano is in our neighbourhood," said one family member.

"I am so thrilled, I was waiting since seven o'clock for the car to arrive," said another family member.

Also thrilled to bits was the oldest member of the Vichare family as she saw the youngest arrival

"I'm so happy my son's got us a car," said Kumuda Vichare, mother of Ashok Vichare, Nano's first owner.

There will of course be many more Nanos on the road but the one in the Vichare's Antop Hill neighbouhood will always take pride of place.
