Narendra Modi accuses Congress, Samajwadi Party of looting public money: highlights

Jhansi: Narendra Modi addressed a rally in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, considered to be a stronghold of the ruling Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party. The rally at Jhansi, over 300 km from Lucknow, is the second out of nine rallies the BJP's prime ministerial candidate plans to address in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections, due by May. Party president Rajnath Singh and senior leader Uma Bharti were the other speakers.

Following are the highlights of Mr Modi's speech today:

• Bundelkhand is full of rivers and resources, yet it is parched.
• No government package has reached Bundelkhand.
• I have come to assure you of solving all the problems in Bundelkhand.
• They said they'll build check dams, dig wells, do you see any of that work done? The package was for their pockets.
• Budelkhand's package was divided between UP and MP, and I can say with pride, my party's Shivraj Chouhan has spent every paisa from that allotment.
• The result is that the agricultural output of that area (in MP) has gone up three times.
  
• This has been recognised by the Planning Commission which is chaired by PM.
• These people are experts at looting. Ram Manohar Lohia (Samajwadi Party's ideologue) would be ashamed of the SP's deeds.
• Congress doesn't care about poverty, the poor, the farmer.
• They talk of packages all the time. That package wasn't for your good but to shut the mouths of UP politicians.
• The Congress's arrogance, the Samajwadi Party's dynastic politics and the BSP's personality cult (vyaktiwaad) can't fulfill the people's aspirations.
• Today I have come to assure you on the basis of my experience as an administrator, you have given the Congress 60 years, try us for 60 months.
• Does anyone from here want to go live in Mumbai's jhuggis by choice? You have been forced to leave your villages to find employment, feed yourselves.
• I see youth from Bundelkhand working hard in Gujarat - people from all over India are working in Gujarat and their perspiration makes Gujarat shine.
• Trinity of SABKA (SA: Samajwadi Party, B: Bahujan Samaj Party, KA: Congress) has destroyed Uttar Pradesh.
• Their shehzaada (reference to Rahul Gandhi) is roaming around but refuses to answer questions. They are an elected government, they should be ready to answer the people's questions.
• I want to ask the shehzaada: did you and your party show that anger when your grandmother killed hundreds of Sikhs? Weren't you anguished at that act of killing?
• And when elections in Delhi are round the corner, you are rubbing salt into old wounds.
• I want to ask very serious questions: who is this shehzaada? An MP? How are intel officers sharing information with him?
• And when it is there government, how is the ISI operating in Muzaffarnagar under their noses? The country wants to know.
• Either go public with the names of the people you were referring to. And if you can't give us names, then apologise publicly to the youth of India.
• Seems to me that the central govt is a news agency. Is it their job to inform us about the ISI or to fix the situation?
• Can you trust such a govt and such leaders? Ukhad pheko, ukhad pheko.
• At one time we had rajas who would take descendants to see their ruins. Now the Congress goes to the huts of the poor - this poverty is their doing.
• From half a roti, they've come to a full roti in 60 years. To feed you well, they will take another hundred years. Do you want to wait?
• They don't know how the poor in India survive. We should pledge to work towards an India free of the Congress, SP and BSP.
• Rani Laxmibai had refused to surrender Jhansi in 1857. You say we will not surrender this country to the corrupt.
• I will be your custodian in Delhi. A chowkidaar who will protect the national exchequer.
• Hum taqdeer bhi badlenge, tasveer bhi badlenge.

• Don't underestimate us. Sau dandi aur ek Bundelkhandi barabar hote hain.
• Gujarat is the only state in India where you can get work done without paying bribes.
• In Gujarat it takes the same time to travel by road and by helicopter; it's a state where women are the safest.
• If Muslims are happy anywhere in  India, it's not in Uttar Pradesh, it is in Gujarat.
• Bundelkhand ke naujawano tay karo ki gidar ki tarah nahin jiyoge, sher ki tarah jhapta maroge.
