Rajkot:
On the second day of the state-level meeting of the BJP leaders in Rajkot, Gurajat Chief Minister Narendra Modi came out roaring and attacking the Congress-led government at the Centre. He accused the Centre of "letting India down".
"The Congress government has jolted the integrity of India. India is one of the youngest countries in the world, but look what the Congress government has done with it," Mr Modi said.
"The Congress government has no answers to the charges against it. Look where inflation has reached. What are the people in Delhi doing? Every time our Prime Minister assures the nation that the inflation will come down. The media must show the PM's bytes and his false promises. Look at where rupee has reached. Why is it only India has been so adversely affected? Smaller countries are coping with it, why is India struggling? I strongly believe the situation we are in is not just because of economics," he added.
And it was also the time to sound the poll bugle. "We have more favourable situation in the 2012 elections. Gujarat is the only state where they ousted a Congress government through an anti-corruption movement in 1974. In 2007, we had majority; in 2012, chances have only become higher," said Mr Modi.
Gujarat goes to polls later this year. It is one of the crucial states for the party as well as Mr Modi as they prepare for the general elections in 2014.
"Never before has any state executive meet been given so much of importance as has been given to BJP in Gujarat. Everyone who believes in development politics, is looking forward to it. We in Gujarat have chosen the path of development. We will never leave the politics of development. We are Team BJP and Team Gujarat. We believe in peace, harmony, brotherhood and development," Mr Modi said amid thunderous applause from his partymen who are attending the state-level meeting.
The two-day state executive meeting began in Rajkot yesterday amidst reports of dissidence and internal bickering in Gujarat BJP and to plan its strategy for the assembly elections.
The meeting incidentally comes in the wake of resignation of BJP leader Sanjay Joshi from the party. Mr Joshi, who had already resigned from the party's national executive, worked for almost ten years in the party in Rajkot and was in touch with grassroots-level workers.
Ahead of the second day of the meeting today, posters of Mr Joshi appeared in Rajkot. And that's not all. A group of supporters of the former BJP leaders puts on masks and distributed pamphlets in his support close to the venue of the BJP state executive in Rajkot.
